besides... you are critiquing it with stupid points. you are comparing apples to apples. saying downhill takes balls, is referring to other team sports that don't take much. but you are comparing this poster with something so alike you contradict yourself! as far as this poster goes i'd say it represents "freeride" downhill and moto. as it is simply comparing "downhill" with sports that play with "a ball"

well see the point of the picture is saying other sports don't take "balls" i grew up racing motos, bikes and pretty much anything else with an engine. the only team sport i ever played was hockey which i played for 6 years. playing hockey taking skill stamina, thinking etc. but getting on the ice doesn't take balls or you don't experience the "sacking up and hitting it" effect like you do when you hit a triple no one else is hitting in moto. or you hit the 50 foot double and national champs for the first time.

lets not feed the monkeys guys. he's obviously a shit talker and hasn't really gotten a chance to ride gnarly terrain. his comments make it quite obvious. first off, he's probably never been to fort williams. secondly "first you roll down it and get faster and faster." i've seen rock or rooty sections i bet this mofo couldn't ride down. its quite impressive when you show up at a track that is easier to get down on your bike than your feet.

this is the best POD i have seen in a very long time. this is a very "moto-like" picture. he looks like he's about to stuff him in the corner!

T3rr1: agh. alright. i was just curious. it seems as if the leverage ratio starts around 2.8-3.0, but later through the travel drastically climbs to about 6:1. it would allow it to be quite the plow bike. as it wouldn't ramp up much. but it would be fairly easy to bottom and would blow through the travel very quickly. i was just curious! thank you.

theminsta: yes you are right, but considering its a fairly new frame and concept, the ride comes first, then looks, and design, possibly reduction in weight. a perfect example would be the V10. it went from hideous and working okay, to better looking and working good, to greatER looking and greatER performance.

fuuuck that. riding in rain is sketch enough. let alone going that fast.

stoner is a bad ass, but i prefer pedrossa

theminsta: ummm okay? that really doesn't have any affect on the ride at all??

anyways, t3rr1, do you feel any unusual ramp up as you go through travel? does it feel as if it blows through the travel? i am just curious as i am very intrigued by this design, yet the models i've seen, i find myself a questioning the lev ratio curve.

now i am by no means bashing on this bike, infact its a very interesting design. but i was looking at a model i found somewhere and it seems as if from about 50mm of travel till bottom it has a rising rate? and in the last quarter of travel the rate jumps up dramatically. in this case wouldn't it allow the bike to handle a bit funny and bottom fairly easy? not so much a bottomless feel.

yeah. candymuffin got it.

sorry for not being specific. someone said this stupid looking crank eliminated the "deadspot" i did it to shot him that a crank is a crank and this won't change a thing because the distance from center to center will always remain the same.

depends on gearing of course. at a supermoto race at infineon raceway i hit 117 on the back straight. if you geared it different im sure it would go faster. we went backwards through teh carousel and ran out of track to go any faster.... but anyway the bike isn't about top speed. it has lots of power and 42 foot pounds of torque so it can pull out of corners racing supermoto. i have to admit. im 5'7" and 136-40 pounds. i have more fun on like a 450, this bike is kind of scary at times (being as small as i am....). but it is loads of fun

robyboulianne: you're correct, however they also don't steer as quickly. but they are extrmely stable. the same thing that applies to quick maneuverability in planes cars etc applies to bikes a bike to some degree has to be unstable for it to be quick handling. a 29 is on of the most stable bikes you will ride. but they will not turn or ride as snappy, which is why i don't believe there is much life for it in DH. like posted early bigger wheel = larger turning radius when leaned to the same degree. 29 is excelent for climbing however thanks to the larger contact area. the other down fall is the BB is lower in relation to the axle's. now that WOULD be a good thing, it makes it extremely stable, however because your weight is not at the same point of higher than the axles it takes much more to lean the bike into a corner.

...... soooo i'm split. i'm not sure whether its good for DH or not, however i do know they make great single speeds.

dray: yes they are SLIGHTLY weaker, but not very noticeable on a quality wheelset. the cheaper wheels have noticeably more flex

Mtn-Bik3r: 29'rs have their good and their bad. yes they have a larger traction area, and less they roll better. however i OWN each of them. i feel the 29" wheel has a place for single speeds for sure. as it climbs extremely well, does not want to roll over the back, rolls well over any chatter. and makes that 80mm fork feel like more. however a 29'r isn't as snappy or nimble when cornering. a taller wheel leaned at the same degree will have a significantly larger turning radius. my personal opinion is that 29'rs have their place. some people will love them and swear by them, some will see the advantages and dis advantages and be less biased, and others will be haters (as usual). as far as 29'rs being a scene in DH? idk.... its really hard to say.

PS i have had a little bit of time on trek's 69'r and a previous fully from another company. the 69r feels a little awkward, like it is two separate bikes. the front end rolls over stuff very easily, and then a split second later BAM their is a sudden jolt through the rear wheel.....

truthfully? the RC4 completely OWNS the dhx. you can tune your shock to any track and any riding style. having high and low speed compression takes getting used to. it also takes the know-how to be able to use it properly. if you don't know what you are doing, then propedal and the DHX is a better shock. if you KNOW what you are doing then the RC4 is hands down top notch. if someone rode my bike in the parking lot they are going to tell me it rides like shit, low speed compression makes it feel funny in a parking lot. but on the trail it can unleash traction you never knew you had.
